I Was Shown My Life by Jesus: Dave Doolittle's Near-Death Experience
Today I’ll be sitting down with Dave Doolittle to talk about something extraordinary that happened to him on a cold November night back in 1984.
It was around 6 p.m. Dave was riding his moped home from work. The weather was rough—rain, sleet, and wet snow coming down in that bone-chilling way November often brings. Visibility was poor. A woman in a VW Beetle didn’t see him and cut him off. Dave hit her car going about 20 miles an hour. The impact shattered his helmet.
Then something incredible happened.
The next thing Dave knew, he was no longer in his body. He found himself about 20 feet above the crash, looking down at the intersection below. A crowd had gathered around what he realized was his own lifeless body. There was no sound—just stillness, as if time had paused. That moment didn’t last long.
Suddenly, he was being drawn upward—fast—into what he describes as a tunnel. At the far end was a point of light that grew larger and brighter until it completely enveloped him. He was in heaven. What Dave felt in that moment was unlike anything he’d ever known: a deep, overwhelming sense of light, love, and peace.
Soon, he saw a radiant, white being—too bright to make out clearly, but Dave had no doubt: it was Jesus. Without speaking, Jesus showed him a review of his entire life. Imagine a giant screen—like a flat-panel TV, before those even existed—playing back his memories like a highlight reel, fast-forwarded but nothing missed.
When it ended, Jesus turned to him and asked, “Well, how do you think you did?”
Dave was stunned. He was being asked to judge himself.
Caught off guard, he replied, “Umm… I guess I could’ve—should’ve—done better.”
And then came words that filled him with indescribable peace: “It’s okay. You are forgiven.”
Dave says he thanked Him again and again. That moment of grace was unforgettable.
Heaven, as he describes it, is more beautiful, more full of love and light than words can express. He didn’t want to leave—but he was told he had to go back. That it wasn’t his time yet. That he still had things to do.
Dave believes one of those things is sharing his story—letting others know that forgiveness is real, and that there is love and light waiting for us beyond this life.
Now 73, Dave jokes that he’s running out of time to clean out the junk in his house—but he doesn’t fear what’s ahead. Not anymore.
